Ballots from the Aquarius Swing

So it’s probably not a good idea, as I try to build support for these electronic ballots, to totally drop the ball in posting them quickly.

Nevertheless, that’s what happened.

If you received an electronic ballot from me this weekend I promise I’ll post them soon.  The fact is my version of Acrobat is putting forth its very best effort to make me Hulk Smash my computer on the expressway.  I don’t know why it doesn’t like me, but it is what it is.

Don’t hesitate to email me at gruber.jake@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Jake

Hailey Simmons: Interstate Oratorical Representative

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

On March 1st 2014, Hailey Simmons placed second in Oratorical Speaking at the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association’s State Tournament.  Hailey will be one of only two delegates representing the state of Illinois at the oldest forensics tournament in the country: the Interstate Oratorical Association National Tournament.

Representing the state of Illinois at the Interstate Oratorical Association is an honor the significance of which those within the world of competitive forensics quickly recognize.  For those outside the activity the true scope of this achievement can be harder to grasp as the time, talent, and dedication required to reach this zenith are very difficult to imagine.

What makes it all the more significant is that Hailey Simmons is only a sophomore member of North Central College’s Speech and Debate Team.   Despite her relative lack of experience in the activity, Hailey made it her goal to represent Illinois and worked  tirelessly toward this goal.  Through countless revisions, endless practice, intense (and sometimes heated) coaching, Hailey never once wavered in reaching her objective.  She truly represents the very best of what North Central Forensics – and the state of Illinois – has to offer.

Congratulations Hailey Simmons on your amazing accomplishment.

IIFA State Tournament Update: John Stanley

The members of the North Central Forensics team congratulate John Stanley for being the 2014 IIFA recipient of the Dennis Ross Coaching Award.

John, you are our coach, our leader, our inspiration, and our friend.  A team could not ask for a better guide and mentor for this wonderful, terrible, joyous, heart-breaking, beautiful, soulful journey that is forensics.

Thank you for being all you are.

IIFA State Tournament Updates!

This from Dr. Richard Paine on the NCC Alumni Facebook Page:

I just got back from IIFA – and I know that the results are already known to many people! But just in case you haven’t heard all the details, the results of the State Championship this year include: A close-out in the final round of debate, meaning that a mutually-held State title now belongs to Steve PerryAbigail Rachel (Abbi Van Hook), Abby Forensics (Abby Escatel), and Megan Nilles. First place in Duo Interpretation for Rachel Suwadi West and Shawn Anaya. Second Place in After Dinner for Rachel. Fourth Place in Oratory for Rachel. Fourth Place in Prose for Shawn. Fourth place speaker in debate for Abbi Van Hook, 5th place debate speaker for Megan Nilles, and 6th place debate speaker for Steve. Sixth Place in After Dinner for Abby Escatel. Third Place team overall (with Bradley first, Illinois State second, Northwestern fourth, and Northern Illinois fifth rounding out the team sweepstakes awards). AND. For only the third time in team history, a North Central student has qualified to attend the Interstate Oratorical Contest, a landmark achieved by Hailey Simmons. She will travel to James Madison University in Virginia in April to compete. AND. John Stanley was selected by the students of the state of Illinois as this year’s Dennis-Ross coaching award winner. Alumni including CodyNicholas FollisDavid DePino, and Kacy Sue (Abeln) were there to celebrate it with him, as was his former-student-now-coach-at-Elgin Tim Anderson. It’s been an IIFA to remember.”

Attention all Coaches!

The one thing I’ve not been able to fix yet with this scheduler is the fact that, when you set your availability, it sets that availability in perpetuity.  So if you put yourself with time slots on Thursday night, you will be available those time slots on Thursday night until the extinction of the universe.

Luckily, there’s an easy work around: just adjust your schedule every week.  Furthermore, please continue to communicate to your competitors that they should only be signing up a week in advance.  Never the following week.

Hope that clarifies rather than muddles.

Man Box

“Just because you market a women’s product to a man

doesn’t mean it’s a man’s product…Crack Conquerer copy

It just means you’ve got something in your Man Box.”

What have you got in your Man Box?

Quick Note about Signing up

Amanda’s availability is up for coaching on the website!

Please keep in mind that a coach’s availability is split between Pfieffer Hall and Skype.  What you select on the sign up form will determine what availability you see.

The pictures below should clarify.  Click them for a larger view.

Introduction to WordPress

Everything about your website you wanted to know but were afraid to ask…but no seriously, this is the intro video.

The purpose of this website is to function as an ongoing, constant, and everlasting communication portal so that we can capture “our story.”  I built it so that every NCC team now and in the future can adopt it as their own, to tell their story and make their mark.

This video is the first in a series walking you through the basic elements of this very straightforward system.  In the end, I hope you realize that updating this website is just as easy as updating your Facebook or Twitter account.
